What to Expect Being Part of The Babysitting Tribe

You are now part of The Babysitting Tribe, a community built on professionalism, safety, and growth. This page is here to guide you through what it means to be a Tribe babysitter, what families can expect from you, and how we will continue to support you as you build your profile and begin accepting bookings.

What is The Babysitting Tribe?

Your Work. Your Value. Your Community.

The Babysitting Tribe is an exclusive platform created for babysitters who want to grow in their careers and families who want trusted, professional care. This is not an open marketplace where anyone can sign up. Every babysitter here has chosen to put effort into their professionalism by completing requirements like CPR and First Aid certification, background checks, and reference verification.

By joining, you are not just a profile in an algorithm. You are part of a community where both babysitters and families are fully vetted, where your skills are recognized, and where families are committed to fair pay and respect for your work. You will never have to compete with false profiles, which gives you the opportunity to stand out for the professionalism and care you bring.

Babysitting may often be short-term or occasional, but it is always important. Every booking is a chance to show professionalism, build trust, and create meaningful experiences for families. Our goal is to support babysitters who go the extra mile, to help you gain valuable experience, and to connect you with families who truly appreciate the work you do.

You are also part of a community that truly values the safety of the children we care for and the effort you put into becoming a verified sitter. Taking the time to learn, maintain certifications, and complete background checks is how we keep children safe, because they are our future. You play an essential role in that future through the safe and loving care you provide.

Most importantly, The Babysitting Tribe is backed by real people who are here to support you. You can reach out and we will answer. We provide feedback to help you grow and guidance to help you succeed, so you are never just overlooked or left behind.

At the heart of The Babysitting Tribe, we believe in:

Safety and trust for both families and babysitters
Honesty & Transparency from both families and babysitters
Fair and reliable pay that reflects your skills and experience
A supportive community where your work is respected and celebrated

By offering our core values to our babysitters, we believe that you will offer us and the families that work with the same in return!

We are currently serving the East Bay, San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, and beyond. If we do not yet serve your area, we encourage you to apply as we continue to grow into new communities.

What is a babysitter?

Babysitting in The Babysitting Tribe means stepping into families’ lives with professionalism, reliability, and care. Babysitters are trusted to create safe and positive experiences for children while giving parents peace of mind.

What Does Babysitting Entail?

Babysitting is a short-term childcare role where caregivers provide care on an as-needed basis. Families may need babysitters for a variety of situations, including:

Evening & nighttime care
Weekend events and gatherings
Afterschool care and safe transportation
Emergency coverage when plans change unexpectedly
School closures & holidays
Overnight babysitting support
Tutoring sessions when children need extra help
Hotel or travel babysitting for families on the go

Babysitters in The Babysitting Tribe are expected to be reliable, professional, and safety-focused at every booking, no matter how short or long.

What Are the Responsibilities of a Babysitter?

Babysitters prioritize safety and well-being above all else. A typical babysitting shift may include:

Providing safe reliable on-call childcare
Engaging children in age-appropriate activities
Preparing simple meals that keep children nourished and happy
Following bedtime and nap routines with consistency
Leaving play and meal spaces neat for families to return to
Safely transporting children (if applicable)
Responding calmly to unexpected or emergency situations
Creating a safe and positive experience where children feel supported and cared for

Some Families may request other light or simple duties beyond this list.

Our Babysitting Experience Tiers

Discover Where You Fit and How You Can Grow

Our tier system is designed to support babysitters and make the booking process simple for families. When a family books through The Babysitting Tribe, they are instructed to choose a babysitter from the tier that best matches their needs. This ensures that babysitters are fairly paid for the type of care requested, and families understand what the market rates are for different levels of experience.

As part of our recruiting process, we place each babysitter into a tier based on factors such as market rates, experience level, and location. This placement helps families choose sitters with confidence and ensures that you are connected with jobs that reflect your qualifications.

You are always free to set your own hourly rate. We do not dictate what you charge. What we do is provide guidance on the rate that will help you get the most out of the platform and increase your chances of being booked. This way, you can avoid being overlooked because of unrealistic pricing and instead focus on building experience and creating lasting relationships with families.

We believe babysitting is an incredible industry to be part of, and many nannies and babysitters start without clear guidance or the opportunity to grow. Our tier system creates structure and fairness so you can gain opportunities, move into higher tiers over time, and continue to grow in this profession.

It is also important to remember that babysitting is not the same as being a nanny. Babysitting jobs are typically short-term, such as date nights or weekends, and most families are not looking to pay the same hourly rate they would for a full-time nanny. By following our tier recommendations, you are more likely to be booked, provide great care, and continue to grow as a professional babysitter.

Aspiring Babysitter
$20-$22/hr

0–1 years of experience
You are newer to professional babysitting but eager to grow. You may have cared for siblings, relatives, or family friends and are now beginning to build your professional track record. Families who choose this tier are welcoming someone motivated, reliable, and ready to provide safe, loving care while gaining experience.

Experienced Babysitter
$23-$27/hr

1–3 years of experience
You have consistent babysitting or childcare experience with multiple families and may have worked part-time or afterschool roles. Families who choose this tier are hiring someone dependable with proven hands-on experience, positive references, and the ability to manage daily routines with confidence.

Skilled Babysitter
$28-$33/hr

3–5 years of experience
You bring advanced babysitting experience and may also have nanny experience caring for infants, toddlers, or multiple children. Families who choose this tier are seeking someone confident, adaptable, and prepared to manage more complex care while creating safe and engaging environments.

Expert Babysitter
$34+/hr

5+ years of experience
You are highly experienced, with years of in-home childcare, nannying, or advanced babysitting behind you. Families who choose this tier are looking for the highest level of professionalism, strong long-term references, and the ability to care for children of all ages with ease and reliability.

Important to Keep in Mind
Most families will choose babysitters from Tier 1 or Tier 2, since the average babysitting rate in the Bay Area typically ranges from $18–25 per hour unless more than two children are involved. When setting your rate, remember that if your price is too high, it may be the reason you are not being booked. It is better to charge a fair rate while being placed in a higher tier than to overcharge in a lower tier and miss out on opportunities.
